What is the work schedule

The labor calendar is a document that establishes annually the list of labor parties of national eremu, of Autonomous Community and of the Cities of Ceuta and Melilla.

The official working calendar is published before the beginning of the year in the Official State Gazette and is the competence of the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.

The characteristics of the holidays included in the work calendar are as follows:

  • They are fixed annually.
  • They have a remunerated and non-recoverable character.
  • They may not exceed fourteen per year, of which two will be local. In any case, the festivities of the Nativity of the Lord, New Year, May 1 (Labor Day) and October 12 (National Day of Spain) will be respected as national festivities.
  • In accordance with the provisions of the preceding paragraph, the Government may transfer to Mondays all holidays of national eremu that take place during the week, being, in any case, subject to transfer to the Monday immediately after the working rest corresponding to the holidays that coincide on Sunday.
  • The Autonomous Communities, within the annual limit of fourteen holidays, will be able to indicate those holidays that by tradition are their own, replacing for this purpose those of national eremu that are determined by regulations and, in any case, those that are transferred to Monday. Likewise, they may make use of the power of transfer to Mondays as provided in the previous paragraph.
  • If any Autonomous Community could not establish one of its traditional festivals because a sufficient number of national festivals did not coincide with Sunday, it may, in the year that this happens, add one more festival, in a recoverable nature, to the maximum of fourteen.
