The General Administration of the State carries out its functions also through public bodies dependent on it with specific functions or tasks. There are different types according to the rules that regulate them:
- Autonomous Bodies. They are governed by public law mainly in a similar way to the Ministries. For example, the State Public Employment Service.
- Public Business Bodies. They are governed by public law in the exercise of the public competences assigned to them and by private law in other respects. For example, the National Currency and Stamp Factory.
- Agencies is. Regulated by rules of public law, they have a greater autonomy of management. For example, the State Agency for the Evaluation of Public Policies and the Quality of Services.
- Public Foundations. The state is the one that establishes more than half of its heritage. They are governed by the same rules as other foundations with some exceptions in terms of contracting, accounting and financial control, for example the Thyssen Bornemisza Collection Foundation.
- Public Companies. The State owns more than 50% of its capital. They are governed by private law although they must respect some special rules in matters of contracting, financial control, etc. As part of the public sector: Post and Telegraph, Lotteries and State Betting, Renfe.
- Consortiums with other administrations.
