Definition

Red.es [‘red’ = net] has been granted authority to register internet domain names under the top-level country code for Spain (.es).
Red.es acts in accordance with the guidelines drawn up by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation by agreement with the ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) and in accordance with the guides originating from the international market.
At Red.es we firmly believe that ‘.es’ should be a secure, quality domain which is easy to acquire and renew on competitive economic terms. It should offer value-added services, such as amicable conflict resolution.


Requirements

The National Plan of Domain Names(Abre en nueva ventana) under the country code corresponding to Spain. (‘.es’) is the primary applicable text. It governs the system of domain names under ‘.es’ through which the allocation criteria established for ‘.es’ domain names operate.
The content and provisions of the National ‘.es’ Domain Names Plan which relate to the procedures managed by, and associated with, the register of ‘.es’ domain names is developed by Instruction of the General Director of Red.es dated 2 January 2010(Abre en nueva ventana) . His Instruction develops the procedures applicable to allocation and other operations associated with the ‘.es’ domain names register.

Registering .es domains

What to apply for

  • .es’ To identify your name, your business, the body to which you belong ... on the internet. Natural persons or private entities can apply for this domain.
  • ‘.com.es’ For any type of business at a heavily discounted price. Natural persons or private entities can apply for this domain.
  • ‘.nom.es’ To identify your name and business on the web. Only natural persons can apply.
  • ‘.org.es’ To identify your non-profit organisation. Entities, institutions or non-profit organisations can apply.
  • ‘.gob.es’ These are reserved domains. Only public bodies and institutions of government can apply for them.
  • ‘.edu.es’ Entities, institutions or organisations engaged in teaching or research work in Spain can apply.

 

How to apply

Dominios.es offers direct registration and management, but only registers your domain name. There is no value-added, and the price is higher than the registration agencies can offer you. Regulations

The National Plan for domain names under .es

The National .es Domain Names Plan (Abre en nueva ventana) (Section 7) provides for approval by Red.es, a public corporate entity, of one list of prohibited terms and four lists of reserved terms, with limited freedom of allocation.

These lists were approved by Instruction of the Chair of the public corporate entity, Red.es, on 12 September 2005, by virtue of Section 4 of that Instruction.
